Fourteen-year-old Margaret, a Black teenager in Toronto, draws inspiration from Harriet Tubman while trying to take greater control of her own life. She wants to help her best friend Zulma leave Canada and return to her grandmother in Tobago, and she makes a list of changes she intends to accomplish. Her plans meet the complications of family rules, friendship, and growing responsibility. Their story uses imagination and humor to examine migration, culture, identity, and two young women's determination to shape their futures.
