In the Shadow of Blackbirds

In San Diego in 1918, influenza and World War I surround sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black with death and uncertainty. Grieving families turn to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, practices that conflict with her scientific outlook. When her first love is killed in battle and appears to return, Mary must investigate whether she is confronting a ghost, a deception, or evidence that her understanding of the world is incomplete.
