Seventeen-year-old boxer Sonny Bear leaves his reservation for the streets of New York, carrying anger that repeatedly threatens to control him. He begins training with Alfred Brooks, a former boxer who has become a police officer. Their work in the gym gives Sonny a demanding outlet for that rage, but discipline requires more than physical ability. He must decide what kind of fighter and person he intends to become.
