Soon after receiving a liver transplant, Andre Cobb unexpectedly wakes in 1969 and meets Michael, a boy to whom he feels an immediate connection. Back in present-day Boston, Andre learns that his donor's family knows the transplant can send him through time. Blake, the donor's younger brother, is asked to help Andre control the effect, and their guarded partnership also begins to deepen. Moving between two eras and two possible futures, Andre confronts love, loss, Black queer history, and the consequences of trying to live in both the past and the present.
