About this work & edition details

Thirteen-year-old Elli Friedmann's ordinary life in Hungary changes when Nazi forces invade in 1944. Barred from school and stripped of possessions, Elli and her family are forced first into a crowded ghetto and then into concentration camps. Her memoir follows the cruelty and upheaval they endure, as well as the faith, determination, family bonds, and hope that help her struggle to survive.
