About this work & edition details

In El Paso in 1987, fifteen-year-old Aristotle Mendoza meets Dante Quintana at a swimming pool. Ari is guarded and angry, while Dante is open, curious, and confident in ways Ari finds difficult to understand. Their friendship deepens through books, family conversations, separation, and a near-fatal accident. As both boys question identity, masculinity, family history, and love, Ari must decide whether he can name what their bond means to him. Benjamin Alire Sáenz's novel begins the Aristotle and Dante series and was adapted as a feature film.
