Andrea L. Rogers

Andrea L. Rogers is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation who grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She earned an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts, where she was mentored by Indigenous writers and teachers, and previously taught art and high-school English in public schools for fourteen years.

Her work moves across fiction and nonfiction for different ages. Rogers completed Man Made Monsters at IAIA as a meditation on love, loneliness, family, and the monsters within society, centering Cherokee people alongside vampires, ghosts, werewolves, zombies, and other speculative figures.

Rogers has said that she writes the frightening stories she wanted as a young reader and revises with young adult readers in mind. She describes the heart of Man Made Monsters as a Cherokee final-girl spirit tied to cultural survival, continuing Indigenous presence, and language vitality. The collection, which traces a Cherokee family over two centuries, won the 2023 Walter Award in the Teen category.
